Porsche 979K – A Modern Day Porsche 959?

I keep looking at the pictures of this car, trying to digest what I’m seeing and where the connections are to the Porsche 959 wündercar from the 1980’s.

A Porsche enthusiast in Japan named Takeshi Kitano, created a one off car using a Porsche 911 Turbo (997) as a starting point. As far as I can gather, the only modifications to the car are cosmetic ones to the exterior.

Aside from the side rakes in the front and rear side bumpers and door sills, I don’t really see much of a resemblance. At least not enough to command the “Modern Day Porsche 959” label.

Although it’s not really my cup of tea, it is a tastefully completed customization job. And you have to commend Takeshi for putting together a car that fits his specific tastes.

What does everyone think of this car? Modern day Porsche 959?
